Based in Marion, Massachusetts, about 55 miles south of Boston, the Sippican Choral Society is a non-audition, regional community chorus made up of singers of varying skill levels. For over 50 years, the Sippican Choral Society has provided choral music to the Southcoast region of Massachusetts.
The chorus performs three (3) concerts per year; two (2) Christmas concerts in early December in Marion and New Bedford and one (1) spring concert in late April or early May in Marion. The chorus numbers approximately 80 singers for the Christmas concert, and 50-60 for the spring concert. The organization also offers an auditioned Chamber Chorus consisting of 16 to 20 choral members.
Rehearsals for the Christmas concerts begin the 2nd Monday in September and are held every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. until the concerts. The Christmas concerts consist of choral music drawn from both sacred and secular repertoire, and usually include some lighter popular music.
The spring concert rehearsals begin the 2nd Monday in January and are held every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. until the concert. The music includes a broad selection of classical, sacred and popular music.
Music for each concert is chosen by a Music Selection Committee made up of chorus members, working in collaboration/cooperation with the Music Director. The final selections are then confirmed by the Board.
