Artistic Director & Conductor – Koleinu – Boston’s Jewish Community Chorus (Greater Boston area, part-time)
Compensation: Negotiable. Commensurate with experience.
Commitment: Thursday evening rehearsals, 7:00-9:30 pm.
Planning to begin July 2027 with the start of rehearsal season, September 2027.
About Us
Koleinu is a vibrant community chorus celebrating 25 years of bringing Jewish music to life. We are a non-auditioned, inclusive choir where the love of heritage and song is the only requirement for entry. Our members range from seasoned singers to those who do not read music, creating a warm, multi-generational environment dedicated to cultural preservation and communal joy.
The Role
We are seeking an inspiring and patient Artistic Director/Conductor to lead us into our next chapter. The ideal candidate is a skilled musician with a depth of Jewish knowledge, a commitment to community building, and a passion for the diverse landscape of Jewish choral music—from liturgical and Klezmer to Israeli folk and contemporary works.
Key Responsibilities
● Artistic Leadership: Select and arrange an accessible repertoire that accommodates various skill levels while maintaining high musical standards.
● Rehearsal Management: Lead weekly rehearsals with a focus on vocal technique, blend, and storytelling, ensuring that members who do not read music or Hebrew and are at any level of observance feel supported and confident. This includes the production of recordings for each section, coordination of sectional rehearsals, coaching of soloists, and oversight of instrumental accompaniment for rehearsals and concerts.
● Conducting: Prepare and conduct the chorus for two major concerts per year, plus one or more community outreach performances.
● Education: Provide historical and cultural context for the music to deepen the singers’ and concert audiences’ connection to the material.
● Collaboration: Work with the Board of Directors and Organizational Committee on concert themes and logistics; and promote the mission, values, and long-term vision of the ensemble.
Qualifications
● Proven experience in choral conducting and/or musical leadership.
● Experience leading non-auditioned choral groups.
● A strong foundation in and/or willingness to learn Jewish musical traditions and Hebrew/Yiddish/Ladino pronunciation.
● The ability to employ creative rehearsal techniques with singers who have diverse musical experiences.
● A warm, encouraging podium presence that balances productivity with education, humor and inclusivity.
● Proficiency in piano for rehearsal accompaniment when the regular accompanist is unavailable.

Voice Teacher Position (Needham)
Musical Journeys Academy / Boston Bilingual Singers is a children’s choral and vocal studio in Needham. We teach small choir groups and offer instruction in voice and piano. Our philosophy is rooted in healthy vocal development, musicianship, and the belief that young choral singers benefit greatly from individual voice lessons. Our curriculum includes music theory and music literature.
We are seeking a part time Voice Teacher to join our team starting Fall 2026. The position includes teaching individual voice lessons to children ages 8–18, with the opportunity to teach small group classes for younger singers.
We currently have three voice students and four new inquiries for the upcoming school year. The teacher may work as many days as they wish and build their own studio within our program.
Schedule
• The studio operates September–mid June, with optional summer lessons.
• A small Music Theory Group (1 hour) begins this fall on Mondays — this class may be included in the teaching load.
• Voice teacher is preferred on Wednesdays.
• Additional teaching days are flexible.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years teaching experience.
• Strong foundation in healthy classical and musical theatre technique.
• Ability to provide basic accompaniment during lessons (accompanist provided for concerts and festivals).
• Skill in selecting age appropriate repertoire.
• Bilingualism or multilingualism is a plus. Many of our students speak Russian; others come from Turkish, Chinese, Indian, Azerbaijani, and Irish backgrounds.

Lexington Children’s Chorus is seeking an outstanding and passionate children’s choral educator to join our growing artistic team for the 2026–2027 season. Depending on the experience and interests of the successful candidate, this educator will lead either:
🎵 Musical Explorers (Kindergarten–Grade 1) — our joyful introduction to singing through movement, games, and musical exploration or
🎵 Preparatory Chorus (Grades 2–4) — our beginning choir where singers develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship, music-reading skills, confidence, and the joy of singing together.
At Lexington Children’s Chorus, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of singing. Through expert instruction, engaging rehearsals, and a welcoming community, we help young singers develop healthy vocal technique, artistic confidence, meaningful friendships, and a lifelong love of music-making.

Position Details

• An accompanist is provided for Preparatory Chorus rehearsals.
• September through May season
Compensation
• $100–$125 per weekly rehearsal session, based on experience and ensemble assignment
• Dress rehearsals and performances are compensated as additional rehearsal sessions
• As Lexington Children’s Chorus continues to grow, additional teaching and leadership opportunities may become available
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching elementary-aged children in music or choir
• Music education, choral, elementary music, or vocal background
• Familiarity with Kodály, Orff, or other child-centered music education approaches is welcomed but not required
• Strong communication and collaborative skills
• A passion for helping children discover healthy, joyful singing
