Dr. Minji Kim currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Music at Gordon College where she teaches College Choir, Women’s Choir, and a range of other music courses, including the Beginning and Advanced Conducting and Choral Literature and Methods classes. In addition to her academic role, she is also the Music Director of the Newburyport Choral Society—one of New England’s most historic and vibrant community choirs—where she continues to elevate the ensemble’s artistic profile and community engagement.
Prior to her appointment at Gordon College, she was the Visiting Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Choral Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she directed the University Chorale and Chamber Consort, and taught Undergraduate Choral Literature, Advanced Choral Conducting, and Choral Methods classes.
Dr. Kim’s musical artistry and leadership have earned recognition from different organizations. Her performance of Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore with the University of Maryland Summer Chorus was selected as a finalist for the 2019-2020 American Prize. She was a selected finalist for the 2021 American Choral Directors Association Graduate Student Conducting Masterclass, a conducting fellow at the 2019 National Collegiate Choral Organization masterclass with María Guinand, and a fellow conductor and singer with the Yale Norfolk Chamber Choir with Simon Carrington.
As an active adjudicator and clinician, she has presented at regional and national conferences and has conducted honor choirs throughout the country. Her scholarly research the Korean contemporary choral works and their performance practice and the integration of aural skill development in choral rehearsal settings. She has presented her works at national and regional conferences, including those of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, Vermont Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division, and National Collegiate Choral Organization.
Dr. Kim holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Maryland, a Master of Music from the Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Yeungnam University, South Korea. Through her dynamic combination of academic rigor, artistic excellence, and cultural insight, she continues to make contributions to the field of choral arts.
